Read MoreLittle Miss Shreveport and Miss America
Gordon Maxcy's daughter, Sharon Yvonne, who had just won the "Little Miss Shreveport" title with the reigning "Miss America".
Background: I was given an assignment to get a picture of Miss America, Sharon Richey, when she arrived at the airport. It's the sort of thing City Editors had rather not waste their limited space on but due to influence of the business big wigs behind such promotions they simply wince and go along with the coverage.
When the flight arrived I went thru the gate toward the plane and as I looked back at the gathered crowd behind the fence I spotted Gordon and his wife, June, with their adorably cute daughter and had a flash of an idea. I whirled around, trotted to the fence, and said "Give me Yvonne". I took her to the plane with me and as Miss America got off I moved up and asked if she'd like to meet an admirer, Little Miss Shreveport. From the look on her face she loved the idea and reached out and took the baby. Don Graham of the Journal got a shot of that and gave me a copy. My picture setup appeared on Page One of the Times the next morning.
