President's Comments
Welcome,
We appreciate your interest in the Shreveport Photographic Society and invite you to meet with us to see if what we do will be something that you will enjoy. Sometimes we talk gear, but mostly we are about good photography and creating great images.
This page will contain information about what we will be doing next and where we will be doing it. We all learn together and mostly, we have fun.
Hope to see you soon,
Dwayne Anders, President
2nd VP/Competition Chair's Comments

Our Next Competition

COMPETITION RULES FOR NEW MEMBER CATEGORY
(New for 2010)
1. Any new member joining the club may choose to be in the new member/beginner category for print competition or in the competition with existing members.
2. New members choosing to be in the new member category may opt to leave the new member/beginner competition and join the regular member competition at any time.
3. A new member may stay in the beginner category until they get a combined total of 300 points from all of their scored prints. They must then graduate to the regular print competition.
4. All prints entered into the new member/beginner competition must stay in that category for separate annual judging and awards and cannot be entered into the regular competition. Once a new member leaves the beginner category, by choice or by points, all future prints will go toward annual competition in the regular print competition. This may happen at any time but the choice must be made before the current months judging and once out of the beginner competition the beginner must stay in regular print competition.
5. A separate committee of 3 will be appointed by the President and 2nd V.P., Competition Chairperson, to judge this category for annual competition.

Programs For April & May
Ten or so SPS members enjoyed the March trip to Mrs. Lee's Daffodil Gardens in Gladewater this last Saturday. The flowers and trees were spectacular, but the wind did not cooperate and we were surprised at the large amount of people there, but there may be an image or two entered from the trip. It really has great possibilites as a site to do great images, but maybe on a day with less wind and tourists.
Our April program will be an outing to the Caroline Cormon Nature Preserve (Briarwood) in Saline, Louisiana on the 4th Saturday. It has an enormous amount of species of plants and wildflowers that are native to Louisiana. We should be there while the Louisiana Iris are in bloom. Richard and Jessie Johnson, the curators, are a wonderful couple with a wealth of information about the plants. They are very dedicated to Briarwood and are a joy to talk to. Maps, driving directions, and breakfast plans will be forthcoming by email.
Our May program will be unique. We will have a classroom night the 4th Thursday at the Barnwell, followed by a field exercise on the 4th Saturday. The topic will be Macro and Close-up Photography. I am working hard to make this really an interesting learning experience for all club members. More details to follow.
